What Is a AFP Transfer Application Colombia?

The AFP Transfer Application Colombia (Solicitud de Traslado de AFP) is the formal written request a worker submits to a receiving Administradora de Fondos de Pensiones (AFP) or to Colpensiones to move their accumulated pension contributions and savings either between two private AFPs within the RAIS (Régimen de Ahorro Individual con Solidaridad), or from one pension regime to the other — i.e., from Colpensiones RPM (Régimen de Prima Media) to a private AFP RAIS, or vice versa. The transfer right is a fundamental worker right established by Article 15 of Ley 100 de 1993 as reformed by Article 2 of Ley 797 de 2003, recognizing workers' autonomy over their pension savings management.

Ley 797 de 2003 introduced the most significant reform to Colombia's pension system since Ley 100 de 1993, raising retirement ages, increasing contribution weeks, and tightening transfer restrictions. Decreto 2241 de 2010 established the current procedural framework including the 45-business-day processing period. The Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia (SFC) supervises compliance through monthly transfer statistics published by each AFP.

When Do You Need a AFP Transfer Application Colombia?

The AFP Transfer Application Colombia must be submitted when any of the following circumstances apply under Ley 100 de 1993, Ley 797 de 2003, and Decreto 2241 de 2010.

Dissatisfaction with Current AFP Performance: When a worker in the RAIS determines that their current AFP is delivering below-benchmark returns and wishes to move their account balance to a better-performing AFP, provided the five-year waiting period has elapsed.

Transfer from RPM to RAIS or vice versa: When a worker decides the other regime is more suitable, subject to the five-year restriction and régimen de transición considerations under Article 36 of Ley 100.

Correction of Erroneously Routed Contributions: When an employer has been routing PILA contributions to the wrong AFP due to an administrative error.

What to Include in Your AFP Transfer Application Colombia

A complete AFP Transfer Application Colombia under Ley 100 de 1993, Ley 797 de 2003, and Decreto 2241 de 2010 must include the following essential elements.

Applicant Identification: Full legal name; cédula de ciudadanía number; date of birth; home address; contact telephone and email; and current employer name and NIT.

Origin and Destination Entities: The name of the current pension entity and account number; and the name and selected portfolio of the receiving AFP or Colpensiones.

Five-Year Eligibility Certification: Declaration confirming the last transfer date, that five calendar years have elapsed, and that the worker is not within five years of retirement age.

Régimen de Transición Status and account balance information must also be declared.
