Forms Legal was founded with a clear mission: to make legal documents accessible to everyone. We believe that getting a well-structured contract, agreement, or form should not require expensive legal fees or complicated software. Our platform provides over 19,000 statute-referenced templates across 36 jurisdictions that anyone can customize and download — completely free. Templates are reference documents, not legal advice, and no individual document is reviewed by a lawyer.

We serve individuals, small business owners, landlords, freelancers, and families across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other jurisdictions who need reliable legal documents for everyday transactions.

How We Create Our Templates

Every template on Forms Legal is built through a rigorous multi-step process:

1. Legal Research: We study the relevant federal, state, and provincial laws for each document type. For U.S. templates, we reference the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), state-specific statutes, and established legal precedents. For Canadian templates, we research federal legislation (such as PIPEDA, the CBCA, and the Canada Labour Code) as well as provincial laws.
2. Template Drafting: Each template includes all legally required clauses, proper definitions, and jurisdiction-specific terminology. We use standard legal language that courts and institutions recognize.
3. Quality Assurance: Every template passes our automated QA system with 20+ validation checks covering field completeness, legal references, governing law clauses, signature blocks, and country-specific compliance.
4. Continuous Updates: We monitor legal developments and update templates when laws change — ensuring our documents reflect current requirements.

Our Review Process

Accuracy is our highest priority. Our editorial process includes:

• Cross-referencing templates against current statutes and legal standards
• Jurisdiction-specific review for each country we cover
• Regular audits using our 20+ automated quality assurance checks
• Verification of all legal terminology, required disclosures, and compliance clauses

Each template page displays a “Last updated” date so you always know how current the document is.

Open Source

The entire platform — every template definition, validation script, statute-citation linker, deploy pipeline, and editorial document — is published openly on GitHub at github.com/0n17work-gif/forms-legal. Every entry in our Corrections Log links to the exact commit that fixed it, so every change is publicly auditable. A machine-readable subset of the template corpus is also mirrored as an open dataset on Hugging Face under CC-BY-4.0.
